Bret’s GoBag

Bret Gordon’s ‘GoBag’ in Book one – Tribe and family.

This was the beginning of his journey.

The bag is a 5.11 24 hour v.2 with the CCW pocket. Multicam.

Above is everything in his ruck. Some redundancies here as well as between his ruck, combat belt, chest rig and later the plate carrier (PC) he uses on occasion.

This purely about his ruck so let’s get into it.

To start with there are some items missing like a 32oz nalgene bottle, his parkinson pills, shemagh and the total amount of 5.56mm and 9mm pistol ammo.

Starting the left.

  1. ruck with two general purposed pouches in MC – These carry three MREs and extra mags.
  2. Cinched up iin a strap for compactness is a USGI Level Six Gore-tex rain suit.
  3. in front of that is a coyote brown balaclava.
  4. and a winter beanie.
  5. moving right/front – hydration packets – water filter system with an extra water tight bag .
  6. water purification tablets.
  7. Moving back – extra belt and suspenders.
  8. MC Boonie hat
  9. MC patrol cap
  10. MC poncho
  11. PCU Level 2 top/bottom in a blue water tight bag
  12. lastly in this row – a pair of winter weight USGI OCP uniform in the light grey water tight bag
  13. all of these water tight bag can double as water storage for filtration.
  14. Moving front again – two sets of Moreno wool socks in ziplock.
  15. Winter flight gloves
  16. extra set of leather tactical gloves
  17. First-aid kit stuffed with gauze, pads, triple antibiotics, quick clot, bandes of all size, tape, gloves, ACE bandage, super glue and more.
  18. Pain meds – prescription

  21. Moving Right – Lighter with layers of Duct tape.
  22. Cammie stick with layers of Duct tap.

  46. Two extra sets of glasses (For me the author – not Bret – of course he has perfect sight.

  50. 6x-Magpul thirty round mags of 5.56mm

  53. Gerber LMF-II Infantry survival knife.
  54. Last but not least rolled and cinched into a compression bag an USGI sleeping bag system with gore-tex outer and only the intermediate layer sleeping bag. This gets attached to the bottom on the ruck.
  55. Bret will also strap or wear his level 4 and 5 PCU OCP USGI issue windshirt and jack onto the pretty full ruck.
