After the world as you know it has turned to shit you start noticing things that you and you’re body is becoming accustomed to. America hasn’t quite completely collapsed. Free America is still running albeit a slimmed down version of the U.S., approximately 24-25 states. The State governments and Governors have miraculously pledged their support to the people. They have pledged to work together for the eventual uniting of America to it’s full status again. Living in America post Chinese invasion and Socialist state secession the best place to be is one of the five large militias organized prior to the SHTF and afterwards by a mysterious person that goes by the call sign of “Leonidas.”
The militias are of two parts; 1. the militia, the guns, minutemen and women and the community. The community are the “civilians” supporting the militia.
The following are things to become accustomed to in this SHTF world.
- Being cold! It doesn’t matter what you do, how you do it or how many layers you have on, you get cold. from wet socks, to wet gloves, an exposed face, lost gloves or the call of nature during the winter time exposing large portions of skin to the environment. Out on patrol, or a recce, you’re moving, so you generate heat and you can dry out pieces of clothing. If the weather is shitty, you’ll be cold, period. If you need clothing, more layers, moisture wicking layers, take that type of stuff off of the dead or ask your militia quartermaster. Yes, that’s for real.
- Being hungry! You can only carry so much food and having skills in foraging, edible plants is a huge asset on your side. Again you can take from those dead you come across. But too often than not the militias are in better shape in this department than their enemies. Being part of the community/militia is almost a symbiotic relationship that Leonidas envisioned from the beginning and had the smarts to have a community at the core of the militia. With being self sufficient in food and water, it’s a key component for a long lasting unit. The community helps and provides services and food and water to the militia while they protect the people of the community. There is also a security department that is in charge of the militia/community safety when at the headquarters. Where as the militia goes out to find and meet the enemy head on.
- Staying hydrated! See above. This is the most important thing. Do it!
- Sleep – you’ll never get enough so you must take it when you have the opportunity. It keeps you safe, your mind working properly, and helps you recuperate and heal appropriately.
- Being sore especially if your old like me. The body doesn’t snap back like it did in your youth. And you need all of the above to help you with being sore. Good luck!
- Being low on ammo. Again if you’re part of one of the major Militias, ammo isn’t or shouldn’t be an issue. Due to the due diligence of Leonidas and those in leadership roles within each militia. But again, take off of the dead and be acquainted with multiple weapon systems. This way if something happens to your primary or you run out of ammo for it, you can take and use what the hostile you just killed has on him.
That’s a list of 6 things that you get accustomed to or not accustomed to in a post invasion state of living. I’m too tired to think anymore. It’s my turn for some shut eye. Tribe and family people. ~Bret Gordon – protagonist of The Reason series.
