Deciding to write a book.

I’ve never thought I would be in this position in a million years. In under two years, I have written almost five books. The fifth is nearly finished, and I started the sixth book this morning. Oddly enough, I haven’t even had my first manuscript edited professionally yet. I’ve edited it (multiple times), as did my wife, and the book has changed a bit but still has the essence of the original draft. It is more streamlined, but we can benefit from professional, unbiased editing.
Back to my original thought. Writing, I’ve never; I did write something years back based on the Star Wars extended universe but never pursued it. Because it’s Star Wars, it’s not something I could pursue and do anything with it because of copyright laws. Then, my wife, in pursuit of a new job because the company, decided they didn’t need the position she was hired for; nine months into her “career” with them, she found a travel job in California. The state we lived in for six years and wanted out. That’s another story altogether.
I brought that fact up when we decided that taking her car to California would be more lucrative, so she wouldn’t have to rent or Uber daily. On the road trip there, I took a book that was recommended to me by a close friend. I tried reading it and couldn’t make it through the first chapter. I’m still struggling with it. After trying, I thought, “If this guy can write and sell books like this, I can do the same!”
I started writing The Reason that night, but I haven’t looked back.
We are five books into a projected ten-book series less than two years later. Someone who never thought I’d be here, but I am.
So, you never really know what will inspire you to do something or try something new, but it’ll happen, and what and how you decide to react to that event can and will have significant life-altering consequences.
Dream big!
